Guests: Frequently Asked Questions

How is the cell service at the venue?

Cell service can be spotty in certain areas of the property, depending on your carrier. We do have Wi-Fi available throughout the main event areas, so guests are able to stay connected if needed.

Is there Wi-Fi for guests?

Yes. Wi-Fi is available throughout the main barn. Look for the ‘BARN GUEST’ network and you’ll be prompted to sign in with your email. There are also QR codes around the venue you’ll be able to use to connect.

Are rideshares (Uber/Lyft) or taxis available?

Rideshares and taxis are limited in this area and should not be relied on for event transportation. Guests should plan to arrive and depart via the transportation arranged by the couple, or with a pre-scheduled private driver (taxi services listed below). If you prefer to drive to the venue but carpool home, you are welcome to leave your car in the lot overnight.

Is there a quiet or private space available?

If you need a quieter moment— whether you’re breastfeeding, recovering from surgery, feeling overstimulated, or just need a breather— please check in with the wedding couple prior to the weekend to see if you can access the private residence onsite. Access to this area is at their discretion. We also have private outdoor nooks with benches and comfortable seating, our team is happy to guide you to these areas

Is the venue temperature-controlled?

Yes. The barn is fully climate-controlled with both heat and air conditioning, so guests are comfortable no matter the season.

Is the venue handicap accessible?

Yes. Our primary event spaces, including the barn and restrooms, are ADA accessible. If you or someone in your party needs additional assistance getting around the property, our team is happy to help. We also have a golf cart and driver for each event that can assist.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome by prior arrangement with the couple only. Please check with them directly, as pet-friendly plans vary by event. Dogs that are reactive, or who exhibit aggressive behaviors when stressed, are discouraged from attending our events.

Can I film the ceremony for a family member who can’t attend?

We always recommend coordinating with the couple ahead of time; some of them have hired videographers or iPhone creators to capture the event and they may prefer guests not to film (or, they have an ‘unplugged’ ceremony planned). Please note, cell service is spotty on the farm, and our remote ceremony areas aren’t covered by Wifi, so please don’t plan on ‘Facetime’ing or livestreaming.

What hotels are nearby?

There are many great lodging options nearby in Saugerties, Kingston, and the surrounding Hudson Valley. Please refer to the couple’s wedding website or invitation for their recommended hotels. You’ll also find some of our recommendations below.

Is there parking on-site?

Yes. Onsite parking is available, and a trained parking team will be on hand to guide guests. Please follow signage and staff instructions when you arrive.

What is the recommended attire?

Attire is set by the couple, so we recommend checking the invitation or wedding website. In general, celebrations at Black Walnut Farm often include walking on grass and outdoor areas, so comfortable footwear is encouraged. Ladies will be more comfortable in wedges, block heels, or flats than in stilettos.

Will we be indoors or outdoors?

Most weddings at the farm include a mix of indoor and outdoor spaces. Ceremonies, cocktail hour, and dancing may take place in different areas depending on the day and the couple’s plans. We recommend dressing in layers and being prepared to enjoy the property. We do have coat check available, but plan to dress warmly specifically in Spring and Fall.
